Books To Order Press Release

We just distributed a press release regarding Books To Order personalized books to PR Web, one of the premier press release services on the web. You can view the release at this link.

We think it's important to spread the word about child literacy and encourage children to read more. In today's fast paced, media driven world, too many kids spend the bulk of their time sitting in front of a televsion set, or parked in front of a computer screen. And while these activities should have their place in a child's life, we think that reading also needs to be included as well. Study after study has validated the idea that children who learn to read at an early age do better in school, and have higher self esteem and self confidence. And reading opens up whole news worlds of the imagination that helps young minds develop and expand in ways that TV and video games simply can't.

So take a look at early readers and other children's books for your young child or grandchild. There are hundreds of current titles to choose from. Personalized children's books have the added advantage of allowing the young reader to see his or her own name printed right into the story line of the book, which is a powerful tool for creating joy and excitement in reading. So stop by Books To Order if you get a chance, and remember us the next time a special litttle one is having a birthday or pre-school graduation.

Child Activity Books Engage Young Readers

Child Activity Books Engage Young Readers

If you want your pre-school kids to read and learn more, you need to get them involved with child activity books of some kind. This type of children’s book engages the child directly, and causes them to be involved and concentrate more on what they’re reading.

Personalized books work great as child activity books, in that the child’s name is printed right on the pages of the book, along with his or her age, hometown, and several of their friends. The child is drawn into the story, and reads on in amazement as they find themselves participating in the storyline in some way. Suddenly reading is a fun, exciting adventure, and the youngster can’t wait to finish the book and see how the story ends.

At Books To Order, we offer a variety of personalized children’s books written around a wide array of topics. If education is what you’re looking for, we have half a dozen different titles that serve well as child activity books. Our Sesame Street line of books, for example, actively engage the child in learning to count or learning the alphabet. Young children love these books, especially when they find their own name printed alongside their favorite Sesame Street characters.

Signals That Young Children Are Learning How To Read

Signals That Young Children Are Learning How To Read

As they're learning to read, and recognize words and simple sentences, young chldren will show the following signs. Observe your child to see if they:

Know that words on a page are related to pictures and that pictures will help explain words.

Know that printed words tell a story.

Know that English text reads from left to right and top to bottom.

Know that books have titles.

Know that people called authors write books and that people called illustrators draw pictures.

Correctly identifies number of words on a page; does not confuse individual letters with words.

Look through illustrations in a book and makes reasonable guesses about what might happen in the story.

Use illustrations to help figure out words.

Recognize repetitive patterns in text and uses those patterns to help predict words.

Recognize some common words by sight. Examples: the, I, dog, house, cat

Stops and questions when words read don’t make sense.

Pauses at the end of a sentence, in response to a discussion about periods.

If your child is showing any or all of these signals, then there's a good chance that he or she is well on their way to becoming a proficient reader. It's important to keep working with them at this stage, so that they continue to develop their reading and language skills, and are well prepared for kindergarten and elementary school.

Childhood Reading--And Learning--Begins At Home

Childhood Reading--And Learning--Begins At Home

If you want your pre-school kids to be better students when they get into school, you need to get involved and set up the proper home environment. A child’s literacy development begins at home, and by having children’s books around the house and reading aloud to your child, you’ll give their learning development a jump start that should carry them well into their school years and beyond.

Now spending this kid of education time with your children can be a challenge, especially if you’re a single parent. In today’s busy world, there are financial responsibilities, obligations to your spouse or partner, and the stress of running a household and keeping things together. And many kids would rather watch television or play a video game than read a children’s book. But you need to find the time to sit down with your children and go over reading fundamentals on an ongoing basis.

Many parents realize this, of course. And some have even gone to the extreme of hiring tutors for their pre-school children. I’m not necessarily in favor of this tactic - kids need time to play and be kids, and there will be enough pressure on them to perform once they get in school.

Children's Picture Books - Not Just Pretty Pictures

Children's Picture Books - Not Just Pretty Pictures

So what’s a children’s picture book, exactly? Well pictures, of course, along with words to go along with those pictures. While these are the two main components of a picture book, how the two are presented goes a long way toward determining what kind of book we’re referring to. The majority of picture books are written for pre-school children, but there are others that are intended for older children, teenagers, or even adults.
Most children’s picture books have simple texts so that young pre-school children can follow the story line. Some picture books can be grasped at a glance, while others have more depth, and adept children can discover detail and nuances in these books over many readings. In a well-designed picture book, the text and images work in harmony together, so that when viewed as a whole, these books become a work of art.
This interplay between text and illustration can be clearly seen in such classic picture books as "Blueberries For Sal," "Curious George," "Goodnight Moon," and "The Tale Of Peter Rabbit."
There are several major types of children’s picture books. In an illustrated book, the art and text are in equal balance. The artwork is used to compliment or emphasize an aspect of the story, not overpower it, although the illustrations are sometimes more memorable than the text. In the prize-winning picture book "One Gorilla: A Counting Book" by Atsuko Morozumi, for example, a large gorilla with a sweet, expressive face teaches children about counting, while immersing them in a series of lush, masterful illustrations.
